Near the end of his life, Narayana Guru (1854-1928), composed a master overview of the major states of consciousness, incisive and cryptic, in ten progressive darsanas of ten verses each, called A Flower-Garland of Visions. His disciple Nataraja Guru interpreted it for twentieth-century scientists in his massive Integrated Science of the Absolute. Later, Nitya Chaitanya Yati presented it as a science of mind, in ThePsychology of Darsanamala, featuring an Introduction by the editor, me. The Portland Gurukula has closely studied it several times as a transformative catalyst, and on the last two, 2005-8 and 2015-18, Class Notes were compiled, and are brought together here to display the cumulative power of the several Gurus' insights. The Notes can be read as an adjunct to the Gurus' originals, or as stand-alone essays on consciousness, with an eye (the many eyes of the classmates) to practical applications. I'm slowly compiling the material out of order--it's a work in progress. Swami Vidyananda recorded Narayana Guru's original dictation, and later made a summary that was approved by the Guru. The story so far as it's known appears in my Introduction. I've included his summary for each verse, as it is otherwise found in English only in its translator Nataraja Guru's Integrated Science of the Absolute, a daunting read. Exploring the Darsanamala is a spectacular transformative experience.
